This Tuesday, join DL21C for a special meet-and-greet with Anthony Woods, a DL21C-generation candidate for US Congress (East Bay/northern California), running in a special election this fall.

Anthony, now 28, grew up on a military base in northern California and is a West Point graduate, who served two tours in Iraq and received a Bronze Star. Shortly after receiving his Masters Degree at Harvard, Woods informed his commanding officer that he was gay, initiating his dismissal under the Army's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, and he was required to return his $35,000 in graduate school scholarships. His candidacy has received national attention in recent weeks.

Anthony will discuss his service in the military, his decision to enter elective politics for the first time, and much more.....see you Tuesday night!

Free for members; $7/non-members

About Anthony Woods:

A U.S. Army veteran, 28-year old Woods earned the Bronze Star for serving our nation in Iraq during two long deployments, leading platoons in fierce battles and working with Iraqis to help rebuild their devastated nation.

Woods was born on Travis Air Force base in Fairfield, California, and raised by a single mother who worked long hours as a housekeeper. Overcoming numerous obstacles, such as a lack of health insurance for most of his life, Woods fought to realize his dream of a quality education and the chance to serve his country by earning a Congressional Appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated on the Dean’s List.

Upon his return from Iraq, Woods continued his education at Harvard University, where he was awarded a Master’s Degree from the Kennedy School of Government. He was a co-recipient of the Robert F. Kennedy Public Service Award and organized missions to help rebuild hurricane-ravaged New Orleans.

During his second year at the Kennedy School, he reached the conclusion that he could no longer serve in silence under the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy, and was honorably discharged for standing up for equality within our military.

Woods went on to work as an economic policy advisor – where he’s helped craft solutions to keep Americans at work and attract new high-wage industries.

Now, Anthony Woods is back home and a candidate for Congress in the 10th Congressional District, running in a special election to replace outgoing Representative Ellen Tauscher.
