On August 27, DL21C is excited to welcome new Councilmember Ritchie Torres (D-Central Bronx), who will talk about one of his first big legislative victories - the expansion of senior LGBT services to the outer boroughs, which will positively impact thousands of New Yorkers.
Councilmember Torres will be joined by Tracy Welsh, the Deputy Executive Director & CFO of Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE).
Councilmember Torres is a true DL21C-generation leader, and we're going to celebrate his accomplishments in style - we can’t wait to hear what’s next for him!
Bronx Councilmember Ritchie Torres was elected to office in November 2013 to represent the communities of the Central Bronx.  Ritchie is the first openly gay candidate to be elected to legislative office in the Bronx and is the youngest member of the New York City Council.  A lifelong son of the Bronx, Ritchie was raised in a single-parent household, growing up and living most of his life in a NYCHA public housing development.  He currently serves as Deputy Leader and Chair of the Committee on Public Housing.
Tracy Welsh is currently the sitting Deputy Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer at SAGE (Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders).  Tracy brings over 20 years of service to the LGBTQ+ community.  Prior to SAGE, Tracy was the Executive Director of the HIV Law Project. Earlier on in her career Welsh worked in the Bronx with low-income residents and provided leadership of Queens Legal Services, and litigated cases for the Gay Men’s Health Crisis.
Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) is our nation’s largest and longest standing advocate for Senior LGBTQ+ people.  Their groundbreaking work can be seen on the ground providing day-to-day needed services as well as creating the first ever federally-funded National Resource Center on LGBT Aging.  SAGE is a leader in training, educating, facilitating programs and advocating politically for innovative services for the aging LGBTQ+ community.  To find out more, visit: .
