Come join DL21C and US Senate Candidate Chris Coons (Delaware) as he runs to keep Vice President Joe Biden's seat blue!

Chris, currently New Castle County Executive, is running against House member Mike Castle, who claims to be a moderate, but votes lock step with the right wing when push comes to shove. Congressman Castle has been in elected office since 1966. The last competitive election Congressman Castle faced was in 1984 during the Reagan years, when Delaware was a swing state that regularly elected Republicans. Today, Delaware has become a solidly Democratic state that Republicans hardly bother to compete in. Since declaring his candidacy just two short months ago, Chris has raised nearly $700,000.

Doors open at 6:30 pm, program begins at 7pm. For more information about County Executive Chris Coons race and to get involved, visit: www.chriscoons.com

See you on the Tuesday, June 8th

Chris Coons currently serves as County Executive of New Castle County, the largest of Delaware’s three counties. New Castle County is home to more than 500,000 of Delaware’s 885,000 residents.

Chris was elected New Castle County Executive in 2004, and re-elected by an overwhelming majority to a second term in 2008. Chris has committed his administration to building a safer, stronger, healthier, and more livable county for all residents. He plans to continue his progressive polices in the United States Senate.

Chris, as County Executive of New Castle County, currently represents more than 60% of the state's voters. Democrats hold a 17% voter registration advantage over Republicans. Registered Democrats 45%, Registered Republicans 32% and other 29%.

Chris’s opponent is Delaware’s At-Large Congressman, Mike Castle. Congressman Castle has been in elected office since 1966. The last competitive election Congressman Castle faced was in 1984 during the Reagan years, when Delaware was a swing state that regularly elected Republicans. Over the last 30 years a lot has changed. Today, Delaware has become a solidly Democratic state that Republicans hardly bother to compete in.

Prior to becoming County Executive, Chris served four years as New Castle County Council President and worked for eight years as legal counsel for W.L. Gore & Associates, Inc., the makers of GORE-TEX fabrics and many other high-tech materials. He was responsible for Gore's ethics training program, e-commerce legal work and federal government relations.

Coons graduated from Amherst College in 1985 with a B.A. in Chemistry and Political Science, earning a Truman Scholarship. After college, Coons worked in Washington, D.C. for the Investor Responsibility Research Center, where he wrote a book on South Africa and the U.S. divestment movement. He then worked as a volunteer for the South African Council of Churches and as a relief worker in Kenya, before returning to the U.S. to work for the Coalition for the Homeless in New York. In 1988, Coons worked as issues director for the U.S. Senate race of Delaware Lt. Gov. S.B. Woo. In 1992, he earned his J.D. degree from Yale Law School, and a Master's degree in Ethics from Yale Divinity School.
