Kathy Hochul is running in a Special Election to replace Chris Lee (R-Craigslist ;) in NY's 26th Congressional District on May 24th.

This seat is in a Republican stronghold, but because of a self-funded Tea Party candidate running as an Independent, Kathy is within striking distance of a Red-to-Blue pick up for the Democrats!

The polls suggest that with our help Kathy can win and send a message across the country that while the Republican Party remains divided and on the extremist fringe, the Democratic Party is stronger than ever!

Please, join this effort to elect a great Democrat to Congress!

Meet Kathy: http://www.kathyhochul.com/

Kathy Hochul has been the highest ranking female elected official in Erie County since 2007 and served as First Deputy County Clerk for four years prior to her election. During her tenure as Clerk, Kathy has earned a reputation as a fighter for her constituents while dramatically enhancing customer service.

She has been a tireless advocate for the taxpayer, and with the average citizen of Erie County in mind, Kathy became the first elected official to champion the removal of Thruway Tolls within the commuting range of Buffalo when she served on the Hamburg Town Board. She was dubbed the “Stop the Tolls Pioneer” by the Buffalo News in recognition of her effort to eliminate tolls on the I-190.

Some of her other accomplishments as a Councilmember include converting the abandoned Water Works building into the Seaway Trail Visitors Center on the waterfront – now a popular meeting place for fishing enthusiasts, business organizations and residents; recruiting new businesses and working to keep existing businesses in the Town of Hamburg; and being the first elected official to propose a zero salary increase for Councilmembers – never voting for a single pay raise in 13 years.

Kathy has also served as in-house counsel to a major corporation engaged in homeland security, had her own practice in Washington, and served as legal counsel and legislative assistant to Senator Patrick Moynihan and Congressman John LaFalce on Capitol Hill.

In 2006, Kathy joined her mother and aunt in establishing the Kathleen Mary House, a transitional home for victims of domestic violence and currently serves on the Board of Directors. She has also served as a member of the Board of Trustees at Immaculata Academy and a local library, as well as co-founded the Village Action Coalition to help local businesses.

Kathy holds a Bachelors degree from Syracuse University and a JD from Catholic University in Washington, DC.

She has been married to Bill since 1984, and is the mother of Billy, a first year law student at the University of Notre Dame, and Katie, a senior at the University of Mary Washington in Virginia.
