Many people in politics have compared the current 2008 Democratic Presidential primary race between Clinton and Obama to the 1984 race between Gary Hart and Walter Mondale. Come hear from Senator Hart himself as he talks about a wide range of issues.
About Senator Hart:
Gary Hart is a professor, lawyer, public servant, author and commentator from the state of Colorado. He formerly served as a Democratic U.S. Senator representing Colorado (1975–1987), and ran in the U.S. presidential elections in 1984 and again in 1988, when he was considered a frontrunner for the Democratic nomination until withdrawing from the race. Since retiring from the Senate, he has emerged as a consultant on national security, and continues to speak on a wide range of issues, including the environment and homeland security. In 2001, he earned a doctorate in philosophy at Oxford. In 2006, Hart accepted an endowed professorship at the University of Colorado at Denver. He also serves as Chairman for Council for a Livable World.
About his book:
Aimed at the new administration of 2009, Under the Eagle's Wing provides a sound national security strategy for the new century. Speaking from experience-former U.S. senator Gary Hart served on the United States Commission on National Security for the 21st century, which predicted the events of 9/11-Hart argues that threats such as terrorism, disease, and climate change are global challenges that should be addressed as such. He addresses a difficult question: How does a republic make itself secure in a revolutionary age without yielding to the temptations of empire? A thoughtful treatise, Under the Eagle's Wing makes a compelling plea for our leaders to embrace a new world order, one in which the U.S. and other nations draw strength from a united approach.
